Crantock beach review

Crantock is located just a couple of miles from Newquay and is a sheltered north west facing beach backed by sand dunes, with the river Gannel flowing along the north side of the beach. Crantock often remains fairly quiet with surfers compared to the other surfing beaches in and around Newquay.

At low tide there is a fast, sucky right hander to the far right of the beach and on a big south westerly swell a good left hander breaks to the left of the beach at around low to mid tide - best on an incoming tide.

Crantock works best on a light south easterly wind however, it is also sheltered from strong north westerly and south westerly winds.

The beach is fairly safe for beginners unless the swell gets really big. The beach is patrolled by lifeguards in the summer.

How to get to Crantock
You can either park at Pentire Headland follow the footpath and jump in off the rocks (experienced surfers only) or follow the signs for Crantock from the A3075. There is a lane from Crantock village through the dunes to a car park above the beach.
